Find everyday adventures every day is a play on words. While everyday often means commonplace or normal, when the spirit of adventure is present, every day can be extraordinary. Whether getting lost in a book or motivated by a mission, the library is a special place of possibility that reminds us how incredible the world can be when we open ourselves up to its opportunities.
I was commissioned by the City of Chicago to create an installation behind the circulation desk at the main entrance of the Edgewater Library. I worked closely with Wendy Miller, Curator of Public Art for the Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events. I chose the phrase “find everyday adventures every day”, and repeated this phrase to cover the wall.
Technically, the installation was interesting to create. It had to be built to last over 150 years. The installation needed to be permanently affixed (not be able to be damaged or stolen), but also removable for the wall to be painted every 10 - 20 years. I developed an inner security screw mechanism to be able to make this happen.
